Main Departments of an Advertising Agency

There are many advertising agencies in Delhi NCR. Some are big with hundreds of employees and some are smaller in size with a much lesser number of employees. Bigger advertising agencies are mostly divided into departments specializing in particular areas of the advertising process. On the other hand, smaller advertising agencies usually combine roles and departments to best exploit their resources and capabilities.

Client Servicing

One of the key departments, the Client Servicing, consists of a team which directly communicates with the client/s. In many ways, the account servicing team is the face of the agency as they are the ones responsible for understanding the client’s brief and synchronizing work between other departments.

The team consists of an Account Director at the top who supervises the entire functioning while Account Managers and Account Executives handle the day to day operations.

Creative Department

The Creative Department of an advertising agency is responsible for developing and designing the campaign for the client across various mediums. Their job is to come up with ideas which create a demand for the customer’s product or service. The Creative Department consists of Art Directors, Copywriters, Content Writers, Visualizers and Graphic Designers. This department is headed by a Creative Director who is responsible for the creativity and quality of work. Under him lie the directors and creative persons who specialize in certain areas of the creative process.

Account Planning

An Account Planner through planning and research gains insights on how the customer perceives the brand’s campaign. Up-to-date with the latest marketing trends, they provide strategic direction for their client’s campaign through focus groups.

Media Buying

The Media Department usually consists of a group of media executives led by a Media Manager. They are responsible for buying advertising space in newspapers, magazines, radio, television, digital media, and outdoor media for the campaign. The media buying team ensures that the advertisements appear at the right time in the right place.

Production

Many advertising agencies have an in-house productiondepartment to handle the execution of the client’s campaign. They are the ones who are responsible for tasks such as photo shoots, videos and commercials. In smaller agencies, the job of the production unit may be outsourced to an external agency.

Finance

A Finance Manager generally heads the department supported by accountants. The finance division is responsible for handling staff salaries, vendor payments, day-to-day expenses and other costs that may be borne by the advertising agency. In short, all monetary transactions of the advertising agency go through this department.

Human Resource

The Human Resource Department generally consists of HR Managers who report to the HR Head. The Department monitors the recruitment & selection of employees, and the overall well-being of the staff members. They also ensure that all processes carried out by the advertising agency are in line with rules and regulations.
